A quick guide to creating effective Instagram Reels ads

What are Instagram Reels?

Instagram Reels ads are fullscreen vertical ads (much like Instagram stories) that can be viewed through the Reels section in your Instagram account.

Similar to TikTok, the content on Reels is purely organic and made for entertainment above everything else.

How can Instagram Reels drive value for my business?

Reels is one of the key players in the emerging short-form video space, and has emerged along with YouTube Shorts as a challenger to the first-mover in the space, TikTok.

The format connects you to people who don’t follow you, allowing you to reach a much bigger audience.

It’s a great opportunity for you to generate brand awareness, capture more leads for your business and convert more potential customers.

What should I do to plan my first Instagram Reels ad?

Before rushing into making ads for Reels there are a few things you might want to consider.

As your ads will be put alongside organic content it’s important they they don’t look too branded. The best way to gain engagement on this platform is to make your ads look and feel like the organic content that your customers are used to viewing.

Try to keep your CTA simple, direct and easy to understand. You don’t want to seem pushy but you want to persuade. A lot of the time something simple and colloquial like, “Wanna see more?” is the best way to go.

Make sure it is to-the-point and above all fun. Your audience came here for something that will entertain them, so give them what they want.

If you are looking to take advantage of the Reels ad placement then we suggest:

  1. Beginning to think about the type of assets you want to make and if they fit within the Reels style. The more organic the better.
  2. Approaching influencers that compliment your brand and consider working with them to make your content.
