RocketMill Cleans Brighton Beach in Support of National Geographic Campaign

Brighton-based marketing agency, RocketMill, held a local beach clean on Wednesday 30th May, as part of National Geographic’s ‘Planet or Plastic?’ campaign.

The agency has been working with National Geographic for over six months on their Paid Media campaigns.

Staff spent the evening collecting rubbish and plastic from Brighton beach to raise awareness of the problem and support the environmental cause. Brighton and Hove City Council generously provided safety equipment for over 20 RocketMill employees who swept the width of Brighton’s shores collecting litter.

Senior Paid Media Executive Travis Eyles, who organised the clean, commented: “It is excellent to see a company not only championing but contributing to such an important cause. This environmental issue impacts us all and it is exciting to work alongside National Geographic to raise awareness.  A thank you to both National Geographic staff and the RocketMill team for stepping up and helping make this beach clean a success.”

National Geographic’s campaign aims to raise awareness of the growing global plastic crisis. Around 73% of beach litter is plastic, which leads to an estimated five trillion pieces of plastic floating in our oceans.

With approximately 6.3 million tons of plastic not making it to a recycling bin, National Geographic is working towards stopping the use of plastic covers on their magazines across multiple regions, including the UK. The multi-layered concept includes a dedicated publication about plastic waste, educational resources for teachers, and a focus on championing projects and technologies to reduce the effect of plastic waste.
