Senior Content Strategist

Salary: £30,000 – £40,000, negotiable depending on experience

RocketMill is looking for a senior strategist to join our content team and drive audience growth for a number of key clients. We operate a small, agile team, and you will be given a high level of autonomy to design and execute editorial strategies, and make your mark on the content marketing landscape.

Skills & profile

The successful candidate will have considerable relevant experience working in an agency setting, client-side, in-house at a publisher, or a combination of these. Building effective content strategies will be second nature, and the successful candidate will also have a solid understanding of technical SEO, as well as a creative flair and a desire to push the envelope.

This is a senior, client-facing role, so the successful candidate will also have experience dealing with stakeholders of all levels, from marketing executives to CEOs. You must be able to distil complex marketing concepts into simple ideas, and be comfortable making the case for content marketing within organisations which may not understand its potential.

Our Senior Content Strategists take responsibility for creating bespoke, high quality content strategies for our clients, so it is imperative all applicants understand how to analyse the performance of digital content, and make recommendations based on specific businesses and audiences. You must also be comfortable planning roadmaps and delegating work to Content Strategists and Executives.

We pride ourselves on a unique blend of consultancy and execution, so the successful candidate will be as comfortable writing page titles as they are discussing the future of content marketing at an industry panel event.

Perhaps most important is a tight cultural fit. We’re a small team in a small agency, and we want to grow our skills, not our headcount. We want someone who can grow with us professionally, enhance our company culture, and have a damn good time doing it.

  • Experience with popular content management systems, including WordPress, Umbraco, SiteCore and AEM
  • A good understanding of how data can be used to analyse performance and inform strategy
  • An ability to work on strategy at a macro level, but also a passion for the minutiae which brings those strategies to life

Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with RocketMill’s Creative team on design, UX and CRO projects
  • Involvement in wider campaign planning, including all marketing channels
  • Advocating for content marketing best practice, excellent user experiences, and quality editorial within RocketMill, face-to-face with clients, and publicly within the industry
  • Supporting clients through ad hoc requests, and status updates through regular calls, face-to-face meetings, and annual reviews

Other responsibilities

  • Aiding team learning through transparency, sharing both successes and failures
  • Documenting case studies on successful campaigns, ready for publication on our website and entries in industry awards
  • Contributing to the RocketMill website through blog posts and Forefront presentations
  • Managing your briefs, and delegating work appropriately to Content Strategists and Executives

The successful candidate will:

You are a digital native and a passionate creative force. You understand content marketing, have a clear vision for where owned media is heading, and know the part you will play in getting it there.

You passionately advocate for what you believe to be the correct approach, and base that opinion on data. You enjoy being presented with a challenge, not just a list of deliverables.

You are a voracious consumer of media in all its forms; you are the person your friends turn to when they need recommendations for a new Netflix series or podcast.

We’re happy to consider more senior individuals for this role. If your ambition is to deliver meaningful campaigns for some amazing clients – rather than run a 25-person team – we’re confident you’ll find a home at RocketMill. If your work has won awards, you’ve spoken at industry events, and you know content marketing inside out, we’d love to speak to you.

The interview process:

We’ll kick off with a 30 minute phone interview to assess your suitability for the role. If you’re successful, we’ll invite you for an interview at our office. If we like what you’ve got to say, the third and final stage is a group interview.
